f you were hoping to do pull-ups or run through a splash pad in Battle of Beaverdams Park this summer, you might be disappointed. As the upcoming makeover of the downtown park draws closer, more news are coming out about what the city will be doing - and not.

The city's Parks, Trails, and Recreation-committee heard this week that the park won't be seeing outdoor fitness equipment installed as crews begin the makeover of the historical downtown park this spring. The same goes for the idea of a splash pad in the park, which also has been scrapped for the park.

"This isn't the appropriate location. We are trying to be sensitive to the historical culture of this park," Manager of Community Services Curtis Dray told the committee.

He said the design had to be approved by both the Federal- and Provincial governments, as a significant portion of the anticipated project cost is funded by grants. Dray also said the city had reached out to the Mississauga First Nations for approval of the design.

"There as no conversations around adult fitness equipment that was warranted in this design, based on the historical significance of this park," he continued, adding that the city will be looking at other parks for outdoor gyms instead.

With construction slated to begin in June, the city has also through a public survey determined the playground design for the park (pictured), after a record turnout in responses to an online survey.

The trails pictured in the design will also be installed, with lighting coming to the trails for nighttime walkers.

Meanwhile, the results of a survey on the future of a Thorold dog park are expected to be presented in the coming weeks after the time window ran out on Friday.
