Starting Feb. 7, Thorold residents will finally able to attend city council meetings in person again.

As ThoroldToday reported, Thorold was one of the last municipalities in Niagara to keep its council chambers closed — but that is all changing now.

“We are happy to welcome residents and community partners back to Council Chambers to attend Council meetings in-person,” said the city’s Chief Administrative Officer Manoj Dilwaria, in a press statement. “The comfort of our attendees is very important to us, so we will continue to live stream the meetings, giving people the option to attend in-person or virtually, based on their own preference.”

Residents who are interested in presenting or delegating at Council may do so in-person or virtually, but must still submit a request form for approval by the City Clerk.

Requests to appear for matters listed on the Council agenda are to be submitted to the City Clerk before 4:30 p.m. on the Monday immediately preceding the scheduled Council meeting.

Attendees are encouraged to wear a face mask, however they aren’t required. There will be disposable face masks available at the entrance of the Council Chambers to anyone who may require one.

For those who’d rather watch from the comfort of their own home, City Hall will continue to be live stream city council meetings on the City’s YouTube channel.

Residents wishing to attend city budget deliberations are fresh out of luck because those will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
