A worker at the General Motors plant in St Catharines died on the job on Friday.
Police told ThoroldToday that officers and paramedics responded to the site just after 8 a.m, where a male in critical condition was found inside the factory.
"Resuscitative efforts were underway. The male was transported to a local hospital and subsequently pronounced deceased," said a NRPS spokesperson in a statement.
" The incident is under investigation by the office of the coroner, our 1 District detectives and being led by the Ministry of Labour."
On Friday afternoon the union Unifor Local 199 confirmed the fatality.
“It is with deep sorrow that we share the following information with our membership. Today a brother at Unifor Local 199 lost his life on the job,” the statement read.
“The membership of Unifor Local 88 would like to express our deepest sympathy to his family, friends and coworkers.”
St Catharines MPP Jennie Stevens offered her condolences to the family of the deceased in a statement on Twitter on Friday afternoon.
Going to work in the morning and fearing that you might not come back home is a tragedy no worker, no family member, no person should have to endure.
