Blackhawks face first-round elimination tonight

Game four in first-round playoffs in Thorold tonight

For the second game in a row The Thorold Blackhawks dominated the shots-on-goal department in Jr.B playoff action.

And for the second game in a row they came up one goal short and now find themselves facing elimination, down three games to none to the Pelham Panthers.

Besides running into hot goaltender Brandon McCorriston, who stopped 44 of 45 shots, Thorold failed to capitalize on power play opportunities and then ran into penalty problems of their own.

Dylan Latty got Thorold on the scoreboard first in the second period capitalizing on a power play. But Thorold had failed to take advantage of five Pelham penalties in the first period which ended in a 0-0 tie.

Dylan Biggar evened the score for Pelham midway through the second period.

The teams played even hockey until just under two minutes left to play in the game when Thomas Young scored a power play goal to give Pelham a 2-1 win.

Noah Fortuna stopped 22 of 24 shots in the Thorold goal.

Neither team showed any composure in the third period with Thorold picking up 12 penalty assessments and Pelham getting 8. Most of the penalties were assessed after the last buzzer. With three seconds left Young and Dylan Biggar of Pelham, along with Evan Miller and Trevor Neumann were involved in altercations. Then a series of roughing and fighting penalties were assessed after two slashing penalties were assessed to Bailey Stumpo of Thorold as the game ended. Fighting penalties went to Riley Sutherland, and Austin Jensen of Thorold as well as Devin Sanders and Nathan Gallen of Pelham.

For the game Thorold was assessed 56 minutes on 16 infractions while Pelham was penalized 73 minutes on 16 infractions.

McCorriston was named the games first star for the second time while Young was named second star and Latty third star.

The series heads back to Thorold Monday (tonight) for game four with Thorold facing elimination. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
