The Thorold Community Activities Group (TCAG) and Club Belvedere are trying to support children going back to school.
That’s why they’ve set up a donation bin for Community Care’s Snacks ’N Sneakers program.
“We’re collecting school supplies, backpacks, sneakers, and snacks,” says TCAG board member James Symons, in an interview with ThoroldToday. “All of this will be collected and given back to Community Care who will distribute it to children in need.”
According to Symons, the back-to-school program is more important now than ever because of the current state of the world.
“With the cost of food rising and inflation continuing to rise there’s more need,” Symons says. “We’re still recovering from the pandemic. People have to make decisions: do I get gas in my car or do I buy groceries?”
With the cost of living going up it can be hard for people to donate something, but Symons says that every little bit counts.
“We’re asking individuals whatever they can donate,” he says. “A box of granola bars can make a difference for a child.”
The action is just an another way in which Symons is giving back to his community.
“I’ve seen a need,” he says. “If I see something and if I can do something to help then I’ll do my best to help with a cause.”
Luckily, according to Symons: “Thorold is amazing at giving.”
A donation bin is set up at the TCAG and Club Belvedere between now and August 17.
