Niagara Regional Police did not say how it intends to handle a second anti-lockdown protest in the region, planned for this weekend in Niagara Falls.
The event follows last weekends protest in St Catharines that attracted hundreds, including a Thorold city councillor, who came out despite the province-wide stay-at-home order and joined hundreds who protested against lockdowns and spread conspiracy theories and misinformation about the vaccine.
It wasn't immediately clear who is behind the second protest, which is announced to take place for most of the Saturday, and calls on protesters to bring their children along 'masked or not.'
NRPS said it had laid charges against two men from Niagara under the reopening of Ontario, as well as the Emergency act after last weekend's rally, but did not name the individuals.
ThoroldToday.ca reached out to NRPS and asked how the police intends to handle the protest, which was announced just shortly before widespread speculation that the provincial government is planning another tightening of the restrictions in the province, amid sharply rising COVID-19 numbers and heightened pressure on the hospital system.
NRPS did not comment on the matter.
ThoroldToday.ca has also tried getting a comment from Thorold Mayor Terry Ugulini regarding the attendance at the St Catharines rally by Coun. Jim Handley, but has yet not heard back.
Several regional councillors have this week spoken out against West Lincoln Mayor Dave Bylsma, who held a speech at the St Catharines protest.
