Anchors can't hold on to head start

Lots of scoring in senior baseball action

Men’s senior baseball action was once again under the lights at McMillan Park in Thorold last night.

The Thorold Anchors jumped out to an early lead over the visiting Welland Chiefs, finishing the first inning with a 3-1 edge.

They extended the lead to 8-4 by the end of the second inning but the Chiefs rallied with six runs in the fourth and added one more in each of the fifth and seventh innings. Thorold managed only one more run in the fifth inning and the Chiefs went home with a 12-9 win under their belts.

Each team committed two errors but the Chiefs out-hit the Anchors by a 12-8 margin for the win.

Adam Bartlett started on the pitchers mound for Thorold and was replaced by Nick Schwab who took the loss for the Anchors.

The team is back in action Friday night en route to Niagara Falls for a game against the Expos at 7 p.m.
