Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for large swaths of Ontario on Saturday, with winds that could hit 90 km/h.
The warning for Southern Ontario applies from Windsor all the way east to Cornwall.
The affected area covers the Hwy. 401 corridor and extends northward as far as Owen Sound and Orillia.
A warning is also in effect for parts of Northern Ontario from Sault Ste. Marie to Wawa, in Timmins and Cochrane, and for communities along the north channel of Lake Huron.
In an update posted shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, the weather agency warned of strong winds that could cause injuries and power outages, as follows:
Strong winds Saturday morning into Saturday afternoon.
This wind warning replaces the special weather statement previously in effect.
Westerly winds gusting to 90 km/h are expected Saturday morning into Saturday afternoon in the wake of a strong cold front.
Winds are expected to ease from west to east Saturday evening.
Gusty winds can damage soft shelters, tents and awnings at outdoor events.
Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.
Utility outages may occur.
