Public Health Ontario is reporting 11,959 new COVID cases today, however, that total is underestimated due to limitations on who can get tested.

The Jan. 9 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • 10,664 recoveries and 20 deaths.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 1,643 people were unvaccinated, 414 were partially vaccinated, 9,522 were fully vaccinated, and 380 are listed as vaccination status unknown.
  • There are 412 people in ICU due to COVID-19.
  • 2,419 patients are hospitalized with COVID. It's not clear how many admissions were due to COVID versus incidental reasons. Not all hospitals submit data on the weekends and the numbers may be underestimated.
  • 226 patients in ICU with COVID-19 are on ventilators (8 of those patients no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • The province reported 49,442 tests were processed yesterday with a 27.7 per cent positivity rate.
  • Another 99,422 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, over 21 million tests have been completed.

Vaccines

  • There were 133,661 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
  • 28,457,813 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 11,469,856 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 878,593 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 730,403 recoveries and 10,366 deaths, 4,057 of those in long-term care homes.
