Annual Christmas lights winners announced

Nancy Waters reports on the 11 best-lit homes, chosen by Port Robinson Proud

This is our 6th year of the Holiday Lights Contest in PR east and west.

Prizes were donated by Bridge 12 Pub and Eatery, Zappis Pizza, JC Auto, Port Robinson Community Centre, Club C Event Centre (Club Castropignano), and by Port Robinson Proud.

It’s a community building event; the entire community gets into the spirit of the season and into the spirit of the competition.

Over the past six years the number of homes and apartments on both sides of Port Robinson that participate in this contest has grown steadily.

On some streets, the neighbourly competition gets very creative. And it’s a lot of fun.

We’ve had people greet us in the street dressed as Santa and Mrs. Claus, we’ve had people invite us into their homes to check out their inside holiday decor too; we’ve even been offered cocktails and snacks! It’s all in good fun!

This year we watched the progression of a particularly large holiday lights tableau grow larger and larger at 14 River St. at the home of Wally Bliss. The entire corner where he lives has been decorated!

And of course, the magnificent display at the corner of Chippawa Creek and Allanport Road is always a yearly stunner by the Rabe family; which this year even includes accompanying music.

It’s definitely worth the drive out to PR to see how festive the hamlet looks!
