From approximately March 1989 to May 1993, Thorold News ran a column called New Books at Thorold Library. Each article began with the sentence “The following are the new books available at Thorold Public Library, 14 Ormond St., North” then launched into a list of the new books available at the Thorold Public Library (at 14 Ormond St. North).
You got what you signed up for - news-wise - in those days. With patrons now selecting their material remotely, it seemed like the perfect time to reinvent the breaking news piece that was: the latest editions to our collection.
Back in the early ‘90s, one standout entry was a book called Ventriloquism Made Easy: How to Talk to Your Hand Without Looking Stupid (basically everyone’s life goal).
We thought there was no way we still had this title – oh, but we do.
One review suggested that, “Once you start, you’ll be talking to yourself for hours” (everyone’s other life goal).
We can’t promise the following will be with us for the same 30-some odd years, but they should help keep you going via curbside pickup for the duration of the provincial lockdown. Here is a sample of new material on our shelves.
