TORONTO — A second man has been arrested after a weekend shooting at a birthday party for a one-year-old that injured three children in Toronto.
Kevin George, 21, of Toronto, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with four counts of aggravated assault, seven counts of firearms-related offences, and one count of failing to comply with recognizance.
Toronto police allege George and another party-goer got into an argument at the party on Saturday and started shooting at each other.
Interim police Chief James Ramer said that opening fire at a child's birthday party is "absolutely absurd."
"It makes me very angry and I think it makes the entire community very angry," said Ramer. "It's very, very traumatic."
Demar Cadogan, 24, of Toronto, was charged on Sunday. He's in hospital after being injured in the shootout, police said.
Cadogan faces charges of discharging a firearm with intent along with several other gun-related counts.
Ramer said that after George and Cadogan allegedly opened fire, other people at the party started shooting too.
He said investigators are still looking for those shooters and others who were accessories after the fact.
"If you were involved with this incident I suggest you find a lawyer and turn yourself in," said Ramer.
"We're working very hard to identify everyone who was involved in that party and we will be arresting all of you."
Police say a five-year-old girl who was shot remains in hospital in critical condition. Ramer said she had been shot in the head.
A one-year-old who was grazed by a bullet and an 11-year-old was shot in the buttocks have been released from hospital.
