Today Justice James Ramsay followed up his earlier ruling upholding the appointment of a new governing board for the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority, by ordering a meeting to take place next week.

Newly-elected Regional Council moved to quickly tackle serious concerns at the NPCA by appointing a new board. However, the outgoing board was refusing to yield and a court ruling by Ramsay on Dec. 21 upheld their selection.

Following a resolution of Niagara Regional Council at its special meeting on Dec. 28, 2018 the Region’s external legal counsel attended Superior Court today, Jan. 2, 2019. Justice Ramsay directed that the Board of the NPCA hold a meeting on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at 2:30 p.m.

At the Dec. 28, 2018 meeting, Regional Council approved a resolution that the NPCA representatives appointed by Niagara Region call a special meeting on Jan. 7, 2019, for purposes of:
    •    Electing a Chair and Vice Chair
    •    Reviewing current status and requesting updates from NPCA staff regarding operations, including HR organizational changes and other ongoing matters
    •    Receiving advice from NPCA’s legal counsel regarding HR matters

Niagara Region’s website, niagararegion.ca , will be updated with any additional information, including location, regarding this special meeting as it becomes available.
