A packed schedule as library life returns to normal in Thorold

Librarian Rebecca Lazarenko with a list of things you might have missed as the library reopens

Even with our library life returning to some semblance of normalcy, we continue to operate at a low grade level of Announcement Mode, always looking to impart some nugget of knowledge on an unsuspecting patron re: our programs, services, and pandemic related pivots. So, this week we’re giving you a somewhat random rundown of goings-on you may have missed in the mix of our reopening.

Here are a just a few possible TPL activities to consider.

Visit our virtual bulletin board: Our fireplace TV now showcases relevant items like program posters, new releases, and upcoming titles. Current highlights include our return to in person Adult Craft Night and some new/noteworthy summer thrillers you may want to place on hold. Take a gander (yep, that’s the word we went with) next time you’re browsing the stacks. To make the slideshow transition more impactful, we pranked you by rotating Christmas 2019 images up until about five days ago. Yeah, so that was all part of this master plan.

Reserve your Most Anticipated list: You can now place our on order titles on hold (like all the exciting new fall releases). Simply search for the title or browse whats coming by typing the keywords ‘on order’ in our catalogue. You’ll find upcoming releases like Smart Cookie by John Jory, The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling, or Sorry Not Sorry by Alyssa Milano. The last one is probably about that time Sam took Jonathan to Brooklyn without Angela and Tony’s approval.

Note the (tiny) changes to service: We have only two Changes of Note to report with the onset of Stage 3, as we were already open to the public with covid protocol in place. Change 1. Our outdoor book return is now closed during open hours. Please mask up and return all material inside during regular library hours. Change 2. Computer times can be extended if no other patrons are waiting. Ok, so hashing out those minor details *didn’t* require a board room rental at $175/hour. Live and learn.

Pop in for a weekend storywalk: We have drop-in storywalks available every Saturday during the summer from 10-4. Pretty straightforward procedure: walk, read, repeat. Please respect socially distancing as required. Can you run the Storywalk? (gasp) No. That’s gotta be illegal.

Complete our weekly scavenger hunt: We’ve already had several young patrons participate in our Pokémon version this week (part two will arrive Monday). On Tuesday, brothers Nicolas and Alexander successfully completed the challenge by finding (spoiler number of) characters hidden in the library. They also found an unrelated ladybug pic that they thought would win them some extra points. It did not. And in case anyone is keeping score, they both claim to have found Pikachu first. Official results pending a more complete investigation.

Borrow a board game: We would like to publicly apologize for not previously having had a cat themed board game available. As a library, this is unacceptable. We now have Cat Crimes ready to borrow (along with dozens of other titles). We apologize for any felineless themed entertainment to which you may have been subjected. Check out all the new additions by searching ‘board game’ in our online catalogue.

Don’t forget to also visit us in person during regular library hours (Monday to Thursday 10-8 and Friday/Saturday 10-5). To keep up with all our latest updates, check our website at www.thoroldpubliclibrary.ca or follow us on social media.
